Hello guys:D Well, i cought 10 black widows yesterday, i couldnt rehouse them right away....so i ended up with 4 or 5 fat, happy ones:shame:

So, after a long time shopping at wal mart, i decided to try something new. i KNEW i had a pregnant female, ready to drop an egg, so i thought.....

Well, i decided to "make my own babies" I

I re-housed my adult female black widow today, in her own half gallon jar. She was pregnant, so i gave her a hide and some food, and allowed her to settle in. I also made my own "widow egg incubator". basically, i put pannyhose ({D {D {D {D dont even ask) over a 1 gallon jar, put a small plastic dish in there, and some peat moss, and moistened the dish (which is where i place the eggsack at) And, along with 3 dead widows, placed an accidently-caught eggsac in it. It worked!!! one baby has already crawled out!

The purpose of the panty-hose ({D {D {D ) is to keep the babies inside, while still providing extremely-small air holes, far too small for anything to crawl in. I moistned it to mimic the dampness of the mothers laying spot. And so the eggsac doesnt dry out. Heres some pics

PM me for complete details, or if you'd like your OWN egg-incubator:cool: I think these will work for just about any eggsac, exept maybe T's, im not completely sure, but so far, it's working great, and i'll now hatch out my own babies.

Good idea, my black widow has layed an eggsack about 2 day's ago, I think im going to try that with it later on, how long should I wait before moving it?

Hmmm, well i will remove mine not long after she drops, that way she doesnt become too "attached" to it, and stress her out, but you can do it however you like.

PM me for complete details.

i kinda came across that problem last night. Just use tongs, and gloves, and be careful.

In the past, I've always just left the sacs with the mom, and round up the little ones out of the web once they hatch.

What is the average incubation period for the eggs? My L.Mactan dropped a sac about four days ago.

Well, the 3 eggs i left with the mom, the first one hatched in about 4 weeks. Ive heard from quite a few people it takes 91 days, not too sure though.

I think I'll probally take them away. This is her third one in a row and I don't think I want to mess with them. Anybody need another sac?

My dad used to catch two and put them in the same jar. Him and his friends watch them fight and make bets.{D

That's what I've always done, with any true spider. I just let her hold her eggsac until it hatches. Then I just retrieve the babies, usually after their first molt. I've never had any problems in diong it this way.

That could work too, but it's not taking the risk of sticking your hand a hundred times, into something more venemous than a rattlesnake.

I currently have 12 adult female BW's and 3 males. Currently I have 2 sacs that I am waiting on. I love these spiders! Cant wait till they hatch!

They are a common pest around here, people kill them by the dozens, but when you take a closer look at their beuty, they are worth keeping.

my only suggestion would be to not put the eggsac directly on the substrate you are using to keep humidity up

in the mom's web the eggsac might get wet, but it is never just sitting in moisture. i think you will rot a fresh laid eggsac ifyou are not careful

Well, t's sitting on a more wet spot, but not drenched, just so it doesnt dry out while keeping the egg intact, in it's own dish.

Hey, ta2edpop if your looking to get rid of a sack then I'd be willing to take it I haven't actually raised a black widow yet bet that's one I've really been wanting to start raising. So if you still have some you want to get rid of let me know.
