From what i have witnessed this varies greatly ...probably depending on the temp and other mysterious factors. Females do seem to lay their first sac about 3 or 4 weeks after mating... if conditions are right. The slings usually hatch in a few weeks, but I have had sacs lay around much longer before they hatch. Some of the geo sacs I have are reaching 3 or 4 weeks and they are finally looking nice and dark ...ready to go.

Well, I seperated the buggers. Initial count..and should be correct...is 123. Did it before any signs of cannibalism.

Interesting about these Laos slings is that only a few instinctively scattered away from the brood. I would run out of cups and while preparing more I would notice only a few trying to climb the plastic. Others would just make their way back to the brood. Hesperus are so different. They scatter like mad! of course, I'm basing this on just one sp. Laos brood, but from this I say these slings are homebodies. :D Oh...but when they want to climb, they do so with much faster results. Almost lost a few that way. Hopefully I didnt...fairly sure I did it 100% clean. :? :D

wow!!! n1 i think i nevered counted every sling at hand considering local widows. But rare ones should be kept in mind.

I hope there is variation remaining between the adults. I plan on displaying 6 in large enclosures like my other display babes. :cool:

Now those are very fine looking, congratulations. Here in the Pacific Northwest some widows will overwinter especially if in the garage. Caught 5 in the house this year, all juvenile

I find that if I prekill a small roach (1/2 incher) or cricket, making sure to mash it up good, and place it in the s'lings communal web, they will soon cover it and feast.
