I was out in the desert(Mojave Nature Preserve, I believe) this past weekend and i saw a really cool looking centipede while flipping rocks. I was about 3 inches long, had a red body and a black head and tail. It had a grayish hue over it so i may have been molting or dusty. I put the rock back and chased it back under (it started to run). Neat lil' critter if it didnt look like it was molting and i had a container i woulda taken it with me. any idead what species?

yeah im pretty sure that was it. The one i saw had a grayish hue over it. like a snake right before a shed. I guess it was going to molt. Its weird i was all over that dersrt flipping rocks at whatever stops we made but that and a few bettles and caterpillers was all i saw. it has been cold lately so that was probably it.

A few weks earlier i kicked over a rock and saw a baby centipede with a red head and black body scurry out of the way. maybe is should start a collection. ;)
