i have some Latrodectus spp tiny newborn, do i keep them together or separate them? what should i feed them, pinhead? killed or live? do they hunt? thx

It would be wise to invest in a fruit fly culture. And yes separate them unless you want cannabalizm to thin out the herd some

Lobster roach nymphs and pinhead crix work but not as well as fruitflies for newly hatchlings. Surely somewhere in Canada can ship you a fruitfly culture. You need to look more

they don't really usually start to eat for a while after hatching out. for various reasons, i have taken to letting them thin themselves out a bit through cannabilism. that way, you can tell when they begin to eat, they molt once or twice and get bigger, and they are much easier to separate.

there are lots of sources for fruit flies on line! i use D. hydei, but D. melanogaster might work better for the really little guys. i just got through pouring a bunch of D hydei into a jar of L. hesperus slings ~ 3 weeks old. the
slings just run away in all directions. we'll see if they have eaten any in a couple of days.

Let them eat eachother until you get a number that suites you.

I have had nothing but fast growing, healthy slings (tons) by feeding them small ants. There is a recent thread where a few of us are discussing breeding and rearing latros.

Since I am guessing you are in Montreal, you could try Reptile Amazon.
They have pinheads at least.

My friend just got some yesterday, I will ask him where he got them when I see him.

(I should be freaking out over a genetics midterm instead of looking for fruit flies, so I might not have an answer until maybe tonight or tommorow)

Don't know why I like wasting time like this, but I tracked down where my friend got them...

You can get Wingless fruitflies at Nature Pet centers or maybe Reptile Amazon. (Whichever one is closest.) They are round 10$ for 200 or something like that.
If you are in the Montreal area (which I think you are), there is probably one nearby, or at the worst take a bus.
