Perhaps the Southern Californians (I was one, once) already know about this:

The Spider Pavilion is like a large greenhouse that one walks through, but is instead covered in netting (or so it appears). The spiders roam freely about (or hang in their nets freely, at least) and you walk through.

I've not been there (didn't even know that they had such a thing), but I would go in a sec. if I was back in Pasadena. It is open until November 5th.
