View Full Version : Please Id Strange Spider !!

I found this thing in my crickets.. I took the piece of eggcrate and went to tap some crickets off when this thing ran across my finger and back to the underside of the eggcrate. so I wanted to know what it is.. it is about 1" across. sorry for the bad shots it doesnt stay still.

Family Philadromidae, genus Thanatus, possibly Thanatus vulgaris.

What is it with these things and cricket shipments? Every thread I see with "help, a spidey in my crix" is always this same species!! Weird...:?

And yes, Arachnophilist, luc' is exactly right on the ID.

interesting.. I have never seen one of these before.. and it sure didnt seem to be happy to be with the crix! the weird thing is I got them from the pet store.. so it was just a dozen hand picked crickets and a piece of the eggcrate. anyways thanks very much for the ID.

cool spider. it is very interesting because my friend matt (mechanical-mind) got one with his crickets from our local pet store too! crazy!
