After reading the thread posted by J.Colt intitled "Im just sick"It led me to wonder is it possible to insure your "T"s ,and has any body done this?
Not that monetary gains could ever ease a loss such as his, it would put you in a better position to get back on the proverbial horse and rejoin the hobby.
I cant imagine my home with out them!
Thanks Jason

You can insure just about anything... for a price. As long as they can make money on you they'll insure it. Many " show biz " types have things like their legs or faces insured. I can't see why you couldn't insure a T.

When I crossed the 1000 mark in T-keeping, I wondered the same thing. No one I talked to would ensure the Ts. They would only insure the cages and equipment and that would have cost me $600 a month.

That's actually a good question... what if there's a fire, or some other natural disaster? Geeze, that would be horrible.

Zero Zip Nadda. I tried for three straight weeks and various companies and they all refused to insure my pets. I kept hearing them tell me to get animal insurance,( I guess that exists ) but I have no clue where to get it if it does.

Maybe a Vet would know?

Liyod's of London

Lloyds of london :
From their web-page :

" Animal magic
Lloyd’s has long been a forerunner in developing innovative animal products. Lloyd’s was the insurer of the 1981 Derby winner Shergar, the great Irish racehorse that vanished after being kidnapped in 1983, and 1970s legendary US horse Secretariat was covered by Lloyd’s for $10 million against failing a fertility test.

Celebrity insurance is another area which has evolved much over the decades – a necessity for stars to insure their talent, or their best physical features. The Beatles took out an accidental injury policy signed by all four members, while the crossed eyes of Ben Turpin (a huge silent film star in the US), Fred Astaire’s and Tina Turner’s legs, Rolling Stones’ guitarist Keith Richards’ hands and Egon Ronay’s taste buds have all passed through the Lloyd’s system. Creechurch offers very specialist types of cover for the world of celebrity. Jonathan Thomas, active underwriter, was even approached to insure a celebrity’s chest hair. “It was definitely one of the most obscure requests I have ever had to deal with, but I managed to come up with a wording that addressed the necessary issues involved.”

In the early part of the 20th century, Lloyd’s underwriters insured cinema-goers against death from excessive laughter while at the cinema. At the time, a few people had been so affected by the hilarious nature of comedic films that they needed medical assistance.

I knew I was right, They'll insure ANYTHING for a price !

insure your T's? cmon, are you guys serious?
When you have invested 10K plus in tanks and T's why wouldn’t you if you could. Could you imagine starting all your breeding projects over again from scratch? I don't know about you but I don't make six figures, so if there is an option to protect my investment ill take it in a heartbeat.
My T's are worth more then the blue book on my car, and I insure that@!

pet insurance is for the vet bill...like your medical insurance. it's not as expensive as human insurance, for it doesnt cover death i don think. i don think anyone will offer it because it's very hard to come up with equations to link a premium and a T's life/health, and it's not a big enough market...

i dont think it would be reasonable to insure Ts because a lot of us seem experienced enough to not have serious accidents that might harm our babies since for example we dont really need heat mats or heat lamps because we dont need that stuff we dont have to worry about cords and wires and water issues. fires can be prevented extra caution just has to be taken care. and i really hope you guys wouldnt bother to insure any male Ts because they are going to die any way much sooner than a female is. and to insure a T thats going to die anyway (because of such a short life span or anything else) no reason to waste money on insurance. it would make more sense to insure animals that actually cost a lot of money like purebed dogs, exotic monkeys, parrots like the african grey or a macaw. i understand that metallica pokie cause 100 dollars or more as a sling but if you need insurance on a tarantula that cost so much then you don't have money to be wasting on such an expensive animal. I agree with yall that these are beautiful animals but you run the risk of losing any T just because life is life so before you buy a T that will break ya bank for half a month..ask ya self is it really worth it? especially if that 150 dollar sling turns out to be a male and will die in 2 years... not worth it at all.

Once again if you have 100's of Ts I think its very worth it. And things you cant control happen all the time. Electric fires, tornados, flash floods, arson, earthquakes. The list goes on and on. No one sets out to have an accident happen, thats why its called an "accident"

My point is if you can insure the things in your house like a tv and cloths and furnature, you should be able to insure 1000's of dollars in pets. But I dont think insurance for that exists. But if it ever does count me in!

Okay, I can see it's not being worth it if you only have 1 or 2 or 20 or even 50 Ts. But for those who make a living doing this or who have several thousand, to lose all of them or even half of them, would be more than just mentally devastating. The financial impact of a fire, or flood, or hurricane, or vandals breaking in and destroying everything...if it happened to me, I don't think I'd be able to recover.

if you have house insurace then they are covered by that, i know this cos i wanted to find out the same thing about my bass (im a 6-string bass player) and found out that it was insured if it was in the house at the time of the desaster. and since my tarantulas never leave the house, they are insured :D

i just phoned my agent:

at least in germany it's that way:

if any kind of natural desaster or accident (like hurricane, fire, etc.) happens to destroy your house/appartment and your ts and/or tanks are damaged or killed, house insurance has to pay for them. that's because they count as things, and while they are in the house, they are subject to the house insurance.

as long as you have an up to date list of your ts, and there is readily available information on their current price, you get paid that price.

however, this does not include death of the ts by neighbours/government spraying against insects in the area, any kind of illness (like nematodes spreading through your collection) or any other thing just killing the ts without damaging the house.

but it's a start...

my agent will phone me back on the matter of insuring the lives of your ts, as he couldn't tell me about that. if you're interested, i'll keep you posted - though i don't know how applicable what he tells me will be to the situation in other countries.
