I have four H. maculata slings right now, they are showing no terrestrial/burrowing tendencies at all. My two adults I had previously were almost never on the ground. Strictly arboreal.
I have 6 H. mac slings and its 50/50 on whether they burrow or make arboreal retreats. The ones that burrowed went right to it, no hesitation. In the wild they may be strictly arboreal, in captivity all bets are off as to what kind of behavior an animal will display.
