I found my 4" B.smithi making a molting mat earlyer to day and this evening it flipped over an is molting right now. But what I don't understand is why it is molting since it molted about 2½ month ago :? And from what I can tell there has not been anything that could have provocked such an early molt. From what I have heard B.smithi's grow really slow and only molt about once a year.
Have any of you had any similar experinces or just any thoughts about this??

B. smithi usually are pretty slow growers. At 4" 2.5 months is not really unusual, especially for a male. When it is an adult and if it were a female, it would molt once a year or less.

I'm not saying it is but males tend to grow faster.

Just examined the shed skin and their no flap so it turns out to be male :(
Anyone know how many years a male B.smithi can live?

If he was 4" before the molt he will mature on the next molt or 2. After he matures he has from a few months to about a year to live.

If I were you I would start looking for a future mate for him.

that shouldnt be a problem since everyone wants to breed them pretty much and you sholdnt have a problem getting rid of slings
