Hey all,

I was first told this is a Grosphus grandidieri. Is it this or something else?

Jesse,

I'm gonna throw my vote for Grosphus grandidieri. It's got the tibial spurs, longitudal ridge and lack of subacuear tubercle. I'm gonna say it's a girl by the shape of the chela (more bulbous in males).

She is one of my bigger scorpions. I guess 2.5 inches would be accurate.

My specimens look the same, so I also vote for G.grandidieri. That is the only "all black" species of the genus of this size. This species reaches up to 9 cm in length and is the largest species of the genus.
Males have more bulbous pedipalps than females. Also females of each Grosphus species have an elongated, dilated or different unique shaped first pectinal tooth. From the top of my head, the first pectinal tooth of G.grandidieri reaches up to the 9th pectinal tooth.
I looked up pectinal teeth counts: females 30-34 and males 34-40.

Cheers, Michiel
