Chilean flame is probably just a Red Phase Rosehair, which is the redder version of what you've already got. I'd suggest you go for a Brachypelma species such as B. vagans (Red Rump), B. smithi (Red Knee), or B. albopilosum (Curly Hair). All can be found for cheap/reasonable prices and Brachys, in my opinion, make great 2nd or 3rd Ts, if not 1st Ts!

I'd say, go for the B. boehmei. Awesome coloration, and it was my 2nd spider too (will be third in your case, but anyway ...), and I love this black/orange hair kicking bug to death.

ps. which dealers list did you copy?

Im with kelly on that one, any of the Brachypelma should do you fine - get a B. albopilosum or a nice B. smithi

If its an arboreal T your after I'd start with some kind of avicularia

cheers,

Stu

Now thats a long list:)

I have a number of the ones you listed and I think the
Honduran Curly Hair (Brachypelma albopilosum) would
be a good choice. Easy to take care of, almost never
refuses food. These T's can really eat. My B. albo can
stuff around 8 crickets in its mouth at one time:eek:
It sure is something to see.

B. vagans, B. angustum, B. albopilosum, or A. geniculata because they are reasonably fast growers, eat quite a bit, and are very active.

I'd go with Grammostola aureostriatum they are doctile and they get big to like 6" to 8" The Rosehaired is more common a first choice T because they are so easy to care esp. for beginners. But If you wanted a Aboreal i with go with a Avic they are flighty but good beginners. The Brachys are good beginners to but watch out for the hairs :)

@ nemesis:

isn't that Euthlus pulcherimaklassi , not paraphysa?

I would recommend a curly-hair ( B. albopilosum) or chaco goldenknee ( G. aureostriata ), as they are good-sized, docile, and nice looking. Curly's really have an appettite from what I've read. Of if you're up to a T that's a little more advanced, you might consider the greenbottle blue ( C. cyanopubescens ), beautiful, interesting, and hungry, and relatively docile.

Hi da_illest,

i am sorry but the only cheap nice guys in ur list are Costa Rican Stripe Knee (Aphonopelma seemanni) and Chilean rose (Pls note that Chilean Flame, Grammostola cala, is actually Chilean rose).

Brazilian Black, Chaco Golden etc are nice but are also very expensive, particular Chaco Golden which can sometimes be prohibitively expensive.

Brachypelma sp are usually nice, but they are qutie expensive and only captive bred ones are available since they are in CITES II. Besides, all Brachypelma are crazy hair kickers and some people are particularly allergic to their urinating hairs.

Dun consider Poecilotheria (although i sell them :D) as they have the most potent venom among all tarantulas, and they are lighting fast. Whenever my customer is attracted by my low price and places an order on it, my heart pounds as i need to transfer this evil guy for shipping ...

I......
Yes but people sell them as paraphysas among other names...

infact the real pulcherrimaklaasi is really rare in the hobby...

that specimen on my pictures is Euathlus sp. and most dealers sell it under E. pulcherrimaklaasi and P. pulcherrimaklaasi and H. pulcherrimaklaasi..

either way they're nice specimens that every one should have
