Whats this dubia doing?

My friend in USA asked me another question regarding his dubia colony. He said he walked in and seen a female dubia doing this. Possibly having babies?..or maybe the start of a molt? Its very strange looking.

She's making an egg case and retracting it back inside of herself to incubate it.

Or pushing it out to ventilate it. It's called an "ootheca". Hard to say but you may be looking at at least a couple of days. Who knows, mabye 5-10, it depends on so much, especially temperature and if the roach/colony is healthy, if the roach is stressed and such.

You should let the frass build up in that tub so that you get a good layer of it. The young eat it and need it.
