From what I've heard, it will likely be in Canada again.

"Nothing makes us more vulnerable than when we love someone. We can be hurt very easily. But I've always believed that what you get when you love someone is greater than what you risk." -Chakotay (to Neelix), Star Trek Voyager
It would be neat if one of the non-profit tarantula clubs could host it in different states each year like MACNA.
Well heck, I'm going this time. I didn't even think to attend last year because I wouldn't have been able to bring any live purchases back to the states. I didn't realize it was going to be such a party, though!
I'm going this year and I'm bringing my drinking pants.

EandA - Your suggestion sounds good, but I think there's just too much red tape involved with certain states to make that possible.

There would be no red tape but you'd have to have non-profit clubs with enough people and some experience and AB would have to give them permission. I believe that's all that occurrs with the Canadian club at present. It would be nice to have something similar in the states. MACNA takes place in Canada every so many years but not all the time.
Maybe I wasn't clear enough...
In Florida, for example, there are many more regulations involving what inverts are and aren't allowed here. Mantids, roaches, etc. are a good example of this.
If you wanted to keep live animals out of A-con, then you're right, no real issues to deal with. If it were timed with a local reptile show, then members could just buy spiders there if they wanted and ship/drive them back home.
So the 'red tape' I was referring to was strictly regarding bringing inverts into the state.

At his rate, I'll never get to go.I keep hoping it will be in West or South Tx to make for some great night hunts plus be within driving distance of me.
"I am not bound for any public place, but for ground of my own where I have planted vines and orchard trees, and in the heat of the day climbed up into the healing shadow of the woods."
why not try to piggy back on to another event, say Tinley Park?
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I'm hoping it is not a train.
The American Tarantula Society puts on a pretty good shindig every year. The next one is in Tucson, 21-24 July. Lots of time in the field, spider mall, presentations that interest invert lovers. Great time, been to four of them so far and don't plan on missing the next one.
I attended the last ACON in San Antonio and it was a blast. I've never seen so many tarantulas in one place before. I'd be the happiest guy around if I could go to both.
Sounds like it just needs an organizer. I'd volunteer, but this would be hard to arrange out of a backpack. Maybe I can next year though. For this year, how about you?
BTW, it doesn't have to be an Arachnocon. You could make something new too. All that's really needed is a hall for activities and trades/sales, and some collecting trip plans. We're all big boys and girls. We can figure out hotels/camping, etc. Just need a spot. If it happens before July, I can make it this year if in the states. Otherwise I'm out till next year.
