I found this spider inside a rotting log that fell apart when I rolled it over. The log was located in an oak-hickory deciduous forest here in Anderson County, Tennessee, very close to Norris Lake. I found it back in October of '10, and it lived until early February. I've included a photo of its web (built inside a jar after being captured). I don't believe it to be a Loxosceles as the eye pattern appears wrong, but I wasn't sure. It was a very skittish spider, and would retreat to the lowest part of its web at the slightest disturbances. The web was a series of sheets with tunnels between them. I've seen these spiders quite often around the area, but this is the largest one I've seen yet, and I'm not sure if it is the same as the others. If I get a picture of the small ones I will upload it. This spider was about the same size as a quarter.

Any help identifying this spider would be appreciated.

Thanks for the information. Even if I don't know the exact species, now I know what to look up and learn about.
