I'm about to turn 40 with a wife and daughter, and just bought my first 2 Ts back in September 2011.

I'm a 30-something too, seems like most of us are- at least most of us "old" people who wanted to see if we fit the bill in this thread lol. I started as a kid, never stopped although my interest in non-predators has waned a bit since then. Got tired of making tortoise salads every morning. Ts are great for older people with busy lives and more responsibilities, they're so easy. In some ways, like Shell said, I think there advantages to being an older keeper. First of all, you can buy that ultra-deadly giant soul-snacking scorpion you may have previously had to ask mommy to sign for

Im 31 and have been keeping T's for about 5 years. As mentioned before its a hobby with no age limit. Some people collect baseball cards..... I collect spiders.

Never to old!, I have buds and friends who are 60s and even 70s that just got in the hobby, they LOVE it! How can you be old to enjoy something, just don't put Theraphosa in yer underwear, or if you do so,, Please take a vid and post here! hehe

im 28 and have been in the hobby for only 1+ yrs... i believe from 12 to 100 you're never too old. (only reason i say 12 and up is because i know I WASN'T responsible and mature enough before then ... hell ... even AFTER then) .. if its somethin you and your son share interest in dont let go of it. I'm 27. I've had tarantulas Since I was 13, but it didn't become a serious hobby until a few years ago. You'll find that tarantula have a higher level of sophistication (let's just leave it at that) compared to your typical exotic pet crowd.

I don't think you're too old for it at all. I plan to keep tarantulas for as long as I am able to care for them... and after that, I'll just find someone else to care for them and stick to observing.

"But I shall certainly admit a system as empirical or scientific only if it is capable of being tested by experience. These considerations suggest that not the verifiability but the falsifiability of a system is to be taken as a criterion of demarcation. In other words: . . . it must be possible for an empirical scientific system to be refuted by experience." –K. R. Popper (1968: 40)

Thanks for all the positive feedback. It makes me feel good, especially since I have no intention of quitting anytime soon. I'm just getting warmed up!...

That's what I like to hear. I got my first tarantula at 20 and am still going strong at 31.

I'm 41. Had my first T when I was 17. Had a large collection by the time I was 20. Last spider died about 3 years ago. Just bought myself a nice little Platyomma and I know by the end of the year he/she won't be alone. Go for it.
