Hello guys!
I'm from Brazil and live in the city of Itanhaém - São Paulo.
I've found this beautiful spider in my garden wall and I wanna know it's ID.

I know it's a female. The male one done his web behind her's and is much smaller.
She has about 8 cm.

Appreciate the help!

Peace!

Might be a species of Argiope based on the web build and some features, but thats a guess in the dark.

We need to see the top (dorsal) of the spider for sure.

I like the fact that a male is in the shot in the first picture. Their extreme sexual dimorphism never ceases to amaze me.

Nice eye, I didn't even see the male. Makes me wonder if my first feelings of Nephila were right.

Hope he posts a dorsal.

It's a Nephilengys cruentata. It's a common species throughout South America, as well as tropical Africa. This genus is bulkier than the regular Nephila, and spin differently structured (with a retreat visibile in the first photo) and colored (not golden as in most Nephila) webs.

Hello!
Thanks for all the answers.

In fact the little one in the first picture is a baby spider.
The male doesn't appear in the pictures.

I'll try to shoot some photos of the male and the dorsal part of our female!

Peace!

While I don't know much about this species, in doing a little curious research I found this spider is in the same clad as Nephila and exhibits extreme sexual dimorphism.

I believe that spider in the web is a male, and his pedipalps are quite visible.

Here is an example of this dimorphism with a Golden Silk Orbweaver on the wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Golden_silk_spider_-_Nephila_clavipes.jpg
