Has anybody tried this? Denatured alcohol is used for treating plant parts before drying them for herbariums. Can I use this instead of chlorine solution? TIA!!

I would be reticent. Part of what goes into denatured alcohol is a poison that prevents it from being ingestable. Even though the alcohol dissapates, it seems as though the additives would not. Chlorine should completely dissapate. I usually heat treat my wood with no chemicals.

well if its just wood that you're using. try and get a tub and some REALLY hot water even boil it if you can. place the wood in there for at least a 1/2hr. chlorine will not completely be removed after you soak the wood. so it could be harmful to the animals. i've heard of people getting away with only 10% chlorine in a water bath.
