yup, well i'm giving up this hobby. I have 4 beautiful tarantulas and its time to call it quits. I am selling them to a specialist for money to invest in my beautiful pet cat. I live with my father, and i don't want to put in harm, so tomorrow afternoon i will not have any T's or any other arachnids.

4 TARANTULAS FOR A CAT?!!!

This is so sad and disappointing. Tarantulas are so much better than cats, but its your life...

I'd rather burn my house down than give up my T's for a cat.
+1 More people are allergic to cats then any other animal on the planet. I can't even go into houses with them as an adult, as a child they literally would send me to the ER. Plus I don't get the whole wanting a partially domesticated animal that's on its own schedule...there's 1000 reasons in my world why dogs are flat out better.:) Cats are ok if you have a farm and a rodent problem, dogs are better if you want a companion to go with you places and actually love you back....I'll never understand the draw of cats....no offense to cat lovers, its just my opinion.

"Don't want to put in harm?" What does that mean?

You have to do what you have to do. Honestly, if you can not keep your father safely around your tarantulas, we understand. Ignore the above, they are just feeling the pain of what it is like to give up something they love for a responsibility.

Sorry to see that you're leaving the hobby. I have 11 T's at home, and one cat, and they are up high enough that she doesn't even know they are there. Good luck, maybe we'll see you back in someday. :)

Trying to leave this hobby is like trying to stop smoking... sure you can stop and yes people have done it before, but odds are you are at some stage in your life going to miss it and come back to it... happened to me...

I have a cat, and Ts..lol. Hopefully OP is giving up his Ts more so due to living conditions & not just trading them in for a different pet :/

At least they are going to a good home, its best to find someone who can take care of your pets when you are no longer able to. Though I am curious as to what your living conditions are like to where Ts are not safe but something more needy like a cat will be? Unless you are implying that your father does not care for your spiders and may potentially harm them, so a cat would be a better choice.

Sheesh, cats aren't THAT bad. :p

I've got a dog and three cats along with my Tarantulas. There's really no danger as long as simple precautions are taken and your cats are somewhat trained. Yes, cats are in fact trainable, it just takes a bit more patience.

However, if it's more due to space issues or family not approving of the hobby, then I understand completely. Good luck with your cat, hopefully we'll see you back here again some day. :)

I think you completely missed the actual point...it has nothing to do with t's AND cats....it has to do with getting rid of t's to purchase a new cat instead, very different, no one is arguing that you can't have cats and t's...tons of people do without issue.;)

I quit T's 13 years ago and now I'm back and hooked harder than ever. Quit smoking 22 years ago and never looked back. At 10 bucks a pack in NY that buys a lot of T's.
