Why do spiders seem to choose to die "in the open"?

From my sad experiences of losing slings and mature males, I've noticed that the majority tend to move out of their burrow or retreat and die in plain sight. It has always made me curious and google didn't give me answers. Has anyone ideas or reasons why?

Depends on why they're dying. If it's dehydration, they may go outside to try to get some dew or rain.

Could also be that in their state of dying their instincts are fuzzy so they start wandering in the vain hope of holding onto life.
