A week isn't nearly enough time for most adult t's to acclimate. They are burrowers and should create their own hide by burrowing. And you likely won't have that condensation issue like you have with the artificial one.

You were given advice by someone with a ton of experience with your species, probably more than the vast majority have with Aussie t's, I'd trust his judgment.;)

That's a huge distance from the top...for that tank to work well, you would need to fill it over half way with sub.

If that is the cricket water crystal stuff in the water dish you should take it out and just fill it with water. A tarantula that size won't drown in that small water dish and real water is far better. Add a rock or don't fill it up all the way if you want to be careful.

OMG I didn't even notice that. Yeah, real actual water is definitely the way to go, a t won't drown like a cricket, its whole front half can be submerged and it can still breathe as its lungs are on its rump.;)

As I posted in your thread from the pictures section, the gel can be replaced with normal water and it is too high as others have said. If your T climbed up too high and fell it could easily die. I would either fill up the substrate over half way or get a smaller tank =)
