I've never had a web-happy species before. The Luggage drops her boluses right in the middle of her webbing, where she likes to sit. What's the best way to clean these up without ripping up all her hard work?

I us 6" forceps for all my cage maintenance, including water bowl replacement. Your fingers don't belong in a spider's cage if it's inhabited.

If the bolus is in the web then I just grab them with my tongs, the spider will A) Pick a new spot, B) Repair the damage or C) Leave it as is. GBBs will usually retreat but I traded off a very defensive specimen I had to a member here who says hes acting like a little angel now. Whenever mine would get an attitude I had a small deli that he could run into and then I would escort him out when I was done. I prefer not to move the spider for cleaning and I did not do it often as he threw his bolus in a corner for me to get.

Oh, of course not. I typically use chopsticks for everything though I'm going to order some tongs like everyone else seems to use. Mostly I was just concerned with the spider getting disturbed while I cleaned and the webbing getting ruined.

Ok, so it sounds like it won't upset her overmuch if the webbing gets a bit messed up.

Mines never had an attitude but she's very skittish and prone to teleportation. I always keep a catchcup on hand any time I open her enclosure just in case she dashes upward instead of around, though so far that hasn't happened. Maybe I'll get a soufflé cup and just pop it over top of her while I work to minimize the risk of teleportation.

That's what I do with my Hapolopus columbia's when they start running like nuts. It's very effective. It's interesting that your GBB is a spaz lol, both of mine are calm. As far as the webbing goes, yeah a small tear in the web so you can extract boluses/uneaten food items and later, clearing the web out of the water dish is not even going to phase the luggage, ;)

Well, she's a teeny baby, still an inch. I'm sure she'll chill with age.

I got a couple nice souffle cups from my work cafe today that should be perfect for the task. Glad to hear it's a tried and true method!

Uh, don't count on it. I started with a sling last year that has molted several times and is now almost 2"... And little "Grimm" hasn't chilled out at all. He's a crazy, fast one. [emoji15]

Mine have gotten more bold with age, maybe less likely to bolt but they will investigate what is going on.

Carefully clean!

My female will investigate, and by that, I mean run towards the intrusion. She's pretty fast. I hadn't thought of putting something over her before attempting maintenance, GREAT idea.

After I noted my genic's feeding response, (Fully expected, but you often can't realize how fast something is until you see it for yourself) I ordered a 10" set of tongs. No way I'm putting my hand anywhere near that spider. when it gets on in size. At its current size I might do so cautiously in an emergency, but a bite would only be painful prick, not a traumatic puncture wound. But I haven't had any such situation arise, and I use the tongs anyway.
