Video: Ants dismantle a wolf spider

I shot this video on a rural property that was owned by my folks.

Ants had dismembered a wolf spider. Although I didn't see all of the individual bits and pieces of the unfortunate arachnid, I did witness the ants carrying away this 'trophy'.

Yups. That's their job. A cross between detrivore, omnivore and carnivore. One of and probably the foremost member of the planetary clean up crew. Using a strong acid, powerful mandibles and a lot of patience. What was surprising to me is they even chop up and cart off thick exoskeletons. I made the mistake once of letting the ants clean a huge Heterometrus scorp thinking I'd end up with a cleaned display piece. 2 days later virtually nothing remained. If it's composed of proteins, it's on their menu.

They also remind me of salvage crews as well. Very efficient at what they do. Gosh, pity about your scorp.....I bet it would have looked really nice on display.
