I bought this little guy at a reptile show several years ago. He was labeled only as a "Rio Rico Scorpion" and hasn't grown much since I've had him. Right now he's about 3/4" - 1". He was far lighter in coloration when I first got him, and he's darkened up a good bit in the last year. He's done well in a desert-like setup. Would anyone know the Latin name? Or a more specific common name than "Rio Rico"? :)

This next scorp was caught in central Oregon, right outside of Redmond. It's quite dry out there, and definitely a desert environment. If I were to venture a guess, I'd say Paruroctonus boreus. I would love some input, though. Sorry for the slightly blurry picture, I can take more if needed.

The final ID is a desert scorp from Nevada that a friend brought me a few years ago...I'm sure it's some sort of Vaejovis, but I'd love some help on finding out which kind...

And last, but certainly not least, I have a H. troglodytes that I've had for 15 years now. She was born in my home, and I've had her for her entire life. In the last year or so, she has exhibited some odd behavior and symptoms. She's become very sluggish, and stays in one place for extended periods of time. She's also become very lazy when it comes to hunting for her food. I started to notice a gradual buildup of feces at the base of her stinger, and it started to get worse and worse. I finally picked her up (something she would never have tolerated if she was feeling well) and broke the "feces" off. It had encrusted a large portion of her tail at this point. I got the majority of it off, and saved it. Under closer inspection, there are small "dots" on the formation, they aren't moving, but are definitely noticeable. Here are a couple pics. If anyone knows what it could be, or if it's linked to her lethargic behavior, I would love some ideas as to how I can "fix" her.

Thanks again for any help or insight....it's greatly appreciated!

Regarding the unknown species, it is possibly this: http://www.vaejovidae.com/Vaejovis.jpg But the pics are kind of blurry and it's kind of hard to tell.

Regarding your H. troglodytes, I am no expert and I am sure others will chime in, but given how long you have had her I would say a strong possibility is she is slowing down due to age.

Thanks for the reply! Sadly the health problem that my H. troglodytes was experiencing is now a mute point, as she passed away a few days ago. I still would love to know what plagued her, though.

Likely age.
