Im sure I posted this pic on here before, but i cant find the topic now so apologies for re-uploading.

I have a load of spiders running round my house this time of year ranging from noble false widows (steatoda nobilis) to garden spiders (Araneus diadematus.

Anyway, i took this pic of a house spider and cant decide whether its Tegenaria domestica or Tegenaria duellica. Google has the same pictures for both species so its not a very reliable source. Can someone help me with the identification of this spider.

Thanks.

thanks, any tips on how to tell them apart?
E.atrica grow much larger than T.domestica. That's a mature male so if it's round 1-1,5" its' T.domestica, E.atrica if it's around 3-4"

Size is a generally very good indication but it does vary substantially especially in this family.
These two species have often been confused by the public, hence the very mixed imaged found when searching for them on the web.
However, once you learn how these two distinct species look like, you realize they are very different spiders, easily recognizable from each other.

These two species have very different coloration and general habitus, different leg length proportions, different shape of prosoma and different abdominal and prosomal markings.
Im not that good at describing textually so i'll just link you reliable identifications for you which makes everything easier.

Thanks tarantula_hawk. the difference between the 2 species really is very obvious when you have photos to compare.
