    Poecilotheria fasciata

    UNSUCCESSFUL

I received a mature female from Scott Bemis on January 20, 2004. My male was in Florida with Jakerocks female. When he was finished breeding them, he sent my male back to me. I put him in with the female after a couple of days. They lived together in a 1 gallon pickle jar until the male died on July 16, 2004, of old age. They were never observed breeding, but the male drummed to the female almost nightly, at the same time.
The female was quite plump, but stopped eating shortly before the male's death. I found out why, today....she molted.
I don't have opinions: I just state facts and exhibit implications....

    Unsuccessful

My computer crashed earlier this year, but I'll try and reconstruct from what data I still have.

The female was mine, the male was a loaner. Breeding took place in 06, likely between October and November. She was kept in the gravid mamas room with day temps at 80 and night temps at 78. Humidity was locked at 65%, and her tank was spritzed twice weekly. On 01/11/07 a sac was laid, but the eggs never developed.
There's plenty of room for all God's creatures...right next to the mashed potatoes.

Patience is a virtue I can't wait for.

After many times of trying to bred my females I finally got one to lay a good looking egg sac. I have not opened it yet will post later with pictures and the final count.

    Successful so far

Of 2 females that have been mated many times over the past year, 1 female popped an eggsac yesterday.

This female was last mated in May, and went through a 'severe' cool down period in June/July (temps as low as 50F).

The female was slowly brought back to warmer temps, and finally kept at daytime temps of 90F+ (plus very very high humidity) for the past few weeks, at which point she began eating again.

She laid an eggsac yesterday, looks quite small and lop-sided, but will hope for the best.

    Unsucessful

To bad I had a verry large female 7.5-8" nice and fat, fresh molt and all. I recived a MM from Brad Carpenter and over the corse of several weeks the male and female faced off as with any other breeding. All things considered I was verry confident that the deed was done. Never count on it as of today she molted every bit of 8" now. I guess it's time to find another male.
    Thanks
    Sam

    Success

Mature male received on loan in early January 2009.

    Female #3:

    Molted 5/11/2009

Paired with male: 6/3/09. Successful pairing with 1 palpi (seems typical with pokies in my collection).

Paired with male: 6/24/09. He drummed but she was not interested.

Paired with male: 7/13/09. He drummed.....she tried to make him lunch.

Noticed she was gravid in August (determined by candling the opithosoma).

Eggsac produced 8/28-30/2009. Exact date unknown. I left the country for a field collecting trip in late August and my wife noticed the eggsac between the 28th and the 30th.

Eggsac was left with the mother. She's better at incubating them than I am anyway.

    Spiderlings were seen 10/11/2009.

Final Count: 66 first instars. (There are a few stragglers still in the eggs with legs stage that weren't included in this total).

    Successful So Far

Female #4 and Male #5 (Received on loan from Trace in Jan. 2009)

Pairings were attempted in the later evenings with lights on. The adults were kept between 78-85 degrees F. We moved in late September, but the females kept the eggsac with no issues.

Female was paired with the male:5/29/2009.

After that she tried to eat him whenever a pairing was attempted.

The eggsac was layed around 9/20/2009. The exact date is unkown but it was within a week of my return from Australia (9/17/2009).

The eggsac was pulled 10/25/2009. 77 alive and writhing Eggs with legs. No dud eggs and only one dead egg with legs.

    successful so far

    male matured August 09
    female's last moult date unknown

Cohabited them for 2 weeks in a large Exo terra. I did not observe any mating but the male made a fresh sperm web halfway through their cohabitation.

    Male removed October 14th.

Female kept fairly dry with an open water dish at around 75 degrees. Fed about 2 crickets a week. Webbed herself in at the beginning of December and I then soaked the tank.

Sac laid 10th January 2010, sac dumped by female on January 31st and she appeared unwell and lethargic so was placed in ICU.

Sac incubated artificially, looked to be deteriorating so opened on 3rd Feb, contained 2 black eggs, a few mouldy eggs and around 100 mixed eggs and N1s

no change in female's condition so far - I don't think she will make it
