Hey all,

I found this bright yellow caterpillar the other day while walking the dog in the park. Kept it long enough to get these shots then let it go.

Anyone have any Ideas as to what species of butterfly/moth this might be from?

This was found in the Denver, Colorado area of the southwestern US.

No idea what it is,
Really cute though! If I didn't suspect that the hairs would be urticating i would like to pet it :p
Nice pictures!

Thanks for finding those links. That first link is a dead ringer for what I had. It must be that species. The photo in the first link also looks like it was on Elm tree which mine was too.

I'm glad they helped out. That really is a neat looking caterpillar. A good moth ID book is on my long list of books to buy. I found a monster silk moth in Oklahoma City a while back and I've been fascinated with moths ever since.

I'm pretty well convinced what I found was the American Dagger Moth caterpillar, Acronicta americana. The photos of the caterpillers look exactly like the one I found.
