help with lighting

I am looking at getting a split tank set up and i need help with lighting.
I have read that uv lights not to good so thats out the window, but what about red and blue lights?
The main problem is my wife :rolleyes: the tanks is going to be in our lounge and has to look nice day and night so any help would be cool thanks.

I would suggest that if you're going to keep your wife in a tank then she'll need some sort of UV lighting or vitamin D suppliment.
For anything else you'd like to keep in a tank where you don't want heat from the light, try looking up Cold Cathode Ray lighting. It radiates no heat and comes in many colours (white for the day and red or blue for the night). A good place to look is www.maplins.co.uk or any PC MOD sites.

LOL trust a local lad to come up with that reply.
i dont mind a bit of heat from the lights.

I have used 18in. flourescents for 20 years with great success, just enclose them in a tasteful fashion.
