Right now I'm cannibalizing my deceased avic's cage for use in transporting some of my critters home...the substrate im going to toss as its soiled but the cork bark is covered in spider silk..is there any harm in saving this for another day? I'd hate to throw it out cause ti was relatively expensive (compared to thr est of the cage furniture anyway)

If the avic had died from disease then i'd certainly get rid of it, but it just fell after a bad molt...

I routinely re-use cork. You can use a dish scrub brush and water to remove the silk, but be careful, as they often incorporate urticating hair into the webbing!

If you're worried about disease, you can boil it thouroghly and then let it dry. You can also soak it in a bleach solution, but be sure to follow it with extensive rinsing and a long drying time, preferably in the sun. Don't use it until the bleach smell is completely gone. Obviously, the color of the wood is much lighter after the bleach treatment!
