    Hello Darrin,
    I'm talking to you.

EDIT: ignore me, I'm a good friend of sb's and I'm taking this all to personally. I'm just having a most difficult time believing it was all sb, as your post stated. As I said I'm taking this too personally.

Wishing you and the ATS all the best for the future

Surprisingly, I have a hard time pointing at JUST AB or just ATS members. Up until less than a year ago, Michael was a MAJOR supporter of the ATS. Check the threads here, I lost count of the number of times he sent folks to the ATS from HERE! I so thoroughly enjoyed meeting him at the last ATS conference, that I can not wait to see him again at Acon (don't forget that bamboo!)

Debby and I and many other talk about how they are two different groups. So what, different, does not imply competition or anything negative.

I personally do only those things that support the hobby. I'm here on AB, ATS, BTS, and also Michael's arboreal tarantula list. Once the semester ends I'll be on arachnofreaks more and with the ATA... and I subscribe to Arachnoculture and soon Sklipkan.

Do I put all of this in my signature? Nope. So the ATS and it's members are here, there and everywhere... just as AB folks are all over, and all the international folks too... and all those who just stop by the sites and don't even sign up!

I think a very tiny, yet vocal minority seem to play up the "us and them" stuff. There is NO separation in the "higher" ups. I've looked for it, I searched, never have I seen it.

Go to the info, and realize that no one source will fill every gap. Rumors, smoke and mirrors and other intangible things do not lead to bred spiders, or healthy pets.

    Hi Christian,
You are right, there are in fact many ATS members here, they just don't openly display it.

I know with The ATA, my "online responsibility" lies in that site first and foremost, all other sites follow, I'm sure all the ATS hierachy would feel the same (and rightly so) too.

I really don't see or have never seen an "us"and "them" scenario played out except with those who perhaps post on only one of the boards. Wade is a fount of knowledge and has posted here forever and a day, he's one of the ATS board

Also, at this point I have to talk about the BTS membership board and Phil's excellent forum based in the UK, The Tarantula Store. By far The Tarantula Store gets more posts then that of the BTS, nearly every board member of the great long term society is a Tarantula Store member. Not once has there ever been any suggestion of "us" and "them" in the UK. The BTS holds the largest exhibition in the area and all members of the Tarantula Store express nothing but open support. Hopefully, the people in the US can unite in such a way eventually, would do wonders for the hobby over there

Christian is correct. I have been a major supporter of the ATS in the past. I attended the last three ATS conferences and was a guest speaker at the last two. For at least a couple of years I put a flyer for the ATS in every order I shipped. I offered to build the ATS a professional website as a donation. Obviously events occurred that caused me to discontinue my support, but I won't comment any further here. In the end, what I want is all of us to work as allies to the advancement of the hobby. It is my hope that "ATS 2.0" won't consider Arachnoboards, ArachnoCon, or my Arachnoculture magazine as adversaries, but rather important partners in the advancement of the hobby in the United States and beyond. It is perfectly understandable for the ATS to disseminate most of its information through its own forum and website, but as Arachnoboards has some 7000 members, it would be unwise for the ATS to not make maximum use of the largest arachnocultural site in the world.

Steve, I don't know what your history or relationship with Breene is, but I cannot fathom how you would take it personally that Americans who have had frequent interactions with Breene should speak against him. The reason I never built a pro site for the ATS was due to Breene's refusal to change. The old site was a disorganized mess and he insisted that I keep all links the same just so he wouldn't have to relearn how to navigate an impossible to navigate site. I also was told that I could put all the long hours into it - something that I have been paid very well for by clients - but the person who created the poor site would remain the webmaster and likely undo my good work. Breene personally attacked me in print in a recent edition of the Forum magazine. His abrasive personality has alienated many and negatively impacted the public relations of the ATS. As his friend I can understand your support of him, but you cannot possibly have an objective view on what has taken place over the years in the ATS and its relationship with the American hobbyist. Breene is a member of this forum and is perfectly capable of commenting himself should he choose.

I have not read Darrin's "Presidential Address" yet, but shall do so now. However, I have commented enough and will have no more to say here. Hopefully my point has been made: personal differences and politics don't, as Christian wrote, breed more spiders or result in healthier "pets". They also don't promote the hobby, contribute to a reduction in arachnophobia, or otherwise do anything productive. For my own reasons, I am no longer a member or supporter of the ATS. I do, however, wish them well and hope that the future will change relationships at large.

    Cheers, Michael

    Hey All,

The purpose of this thread is to discuss what organizations are out there, not to discuss the organizations themselves. Please keep this thread on topic. Any discussions about the organizations themselves should be directed at those organizations. Asking someone at Universal Studios about Disney World won't get you any answers

    Hi Michael,
Just a quick reply, I don't want to cloud the thread too much

I know how abbrassive Bob is, and I know a lot of people don't get along with him (I also know what he wrote in the last ATS forum, I didn't agree with that at all, it was a cheap jab and a silly thing to do). But, I know what I know and it is going to have influence on my thoughts. IMO there's a lot more to this then is spoken about publicly and that is why I have said something.

And yes, like you are, sb is a good friend to me and I will regardless of others opinions, continue to stand up for what I believe to be true and correct. The public portrayal of sb I feel is untrue and incorrect. That is the only reason I have spoken up at all. I know he did some things poorly, but I know others have done worse too and that's not mentioned at all. I don't want to see a friend of mine made into a patsy for others mistakes too (not just his own). There have been numerous times in the past I've reamed sb a new one, we've had our arguments over time for sure, but I still have respect for him in many ways and he has treated me well and with respect. If I listened to others rather then form my own opinion of someone, I don't think I could communicate with too many on these boards at all. So I go with what I know This is the thing, I'm not arguing people interactions with him, I disagree with the ATS board placing the blame entirely on to sb, that is wrong in my opinion. I'm not arguing how other people's experiences have been with sb (which is why you couldn't fathom it, that's not my intention at all ).

If someone spoke ill publicly of you and I disagreed, I would speak out in a flash and defend you as my personal friend. I'm just doing the same for sb and maybe I've taken the remarks too personally. So, I must bow out gracefully as possible and hope to move on, hopefully without embarrassing myself too much LOL

Sorry arachnomoderators, I just had to make it clear where I was coming from

The same mistakes we always made, my friends.
We all try to associate PERSONS to Societies... that's no good and do not hold water...
Sorry for wrong post, Scott, but this is so...

    Ontopic.
We listed Clubs and Societies, as well as arachnological and specialised tarantula organizations together.
Should we separate the list - 1-Socieaties|Associations, 2 - Clubs or all these does not has sence? As well as Arachnological on one hand and theraphosid related on other?

Out of respect for appropriateness of venue as very reasonably requested by the moderators and/or list owners, those who feel compelled to reply to this thread are requested to do so here: http://www.atshq.org/forum/index.php .

If the moderators don't consider this post in itself to be appropriate just zap it with no further explanation necessary.

    Cheers.

It's not that there is anything wrong with your post, necessarily. But any and all discussions of any organization should be directed to that specific organization in question. The thread itself is fine as long as it remains as initially intended (for the sole purpose of sharing various organizations around the world.)
