Went out today with a few friends to look at our herp fauna

First up a scenery of the habitat

First snake found after 5 min or so, a Natrix natrix, common grass snake

and a shot of another Natrix natrix

Food for the grass snakes were also around, a frog. Rana temporaria female in mating colors...I think

And a big ball of mating grass snakes

A freshly shed Vipera berus, european viper, male

Another shot

Close up of the same snake

We also observed two male Vipera berus in combat

Another shot

I'm jealous. You are 10 degrees North of where I am currently visiting Tamara's folks and we have several inches of snow on this side of the world! We should be able to find balls of Thamnophis corrisponding to your Natrix, but instead all we found on today's walk was a snowball fight.

Cheers,
Dave

Very nice.
I especially liked the first pic, for some odd reason, as well as the ones of the adder, of course :)

That third shot of the viper... of his eye...

Movie poster quality, I'd say. ;)

Hi Lelle,

Pics are beautiful, especially the eye of the male viper :worship:
I wish I could see some vipers here in Hungary, but they are almost died out, so I don't have too much chance

Last Autumn I found this little Natrix in my herp room, a couple of pics later I released it.

Best wishes,
Imre
