just a question. I'm wondering if mites can survive in dry substrate with high humidity? Let's say that my room is 80% humid. Can they still live and multiply on dry peat moss? or the peat moss has to be moist or wet for them to multiply?

Mites are very hardy little things. Although they will not flurish in dry enviroments, they MAY survive. Pluse their eggs will definatly survive, and as soon as the time is right they wil invade. Loads of posts on Mites in this forum, take a look, best way to to prevent them in the first place.
