coconut fiber

hey i was wondering can i use coconut fiber ( http://petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?R...amilyID=10813& ) for substate in a g.rosea 's viv. im plaing on picking one up next week at petco. so wish me luck.

Yes, you can. In general it doesn't hold moisture all that well compared to peat, but for a G. rosea (who will prefer a dry substrate), it's perfectly fine. You'll just want to set the tank up ahead of time and let it dry out since you need to soak the bricks in water in order to break them apart.

It is fine and many people use. Personally I prefer peat moss. It is cheaper and easier to work with. The cost becomes more of a factor when you have lots of enclosures to deal with.

I like coconut fiber better IMO, as it holds up burrows well since its fiberous. For me it has held water better than peat. But I had never really soaked peat to see its full moisture capabilities. Also cocnut dosen't grow funky mold like peat can sometimes.
