so i've been seing some b. lateralis males with wings that only go about 2/3 - 3/4 down their body, slightly wider, and with some abnormal shaping at the wingtip... i've seen only a few males like this, but definitely more than one. Here is a newly moulted specimen:

some questions that come to mind: is this a fairly "common" mutation? has anyone seen it before? is it a recessive trait that will likely come up every now and then? are the females/males fertile? do females express the gene in some other way?

thanks! :D

i have no idea, but to see if they are fertile you could seperate out some of the ones showing this and see if you can breed them.

The wings on the newly moulted ones need to be pumped up with liquid first before they reach full size if I'm not mistaken.

hmmm... so i suspect this may just be the result of a moulting difficulty due to too much humidity.. any thoughts? - munis
