A friend of mine took a picture of a spider and has no idea what spider it is!

a bad random guess, but maybe someplace to start is Uloboridae

Miagrammopes caudatus Keyserling, 1890....................Queensland

Miagrammopes fasciatus Rainbow, 1916....................Queensland

mf flavus (Wunderlich, 1976)....................Queensland

mf lehtineni (Wunderlich, 1976)....................Queensland

hmm, the more i look at the pic on deviantart the more i think Ulo is not the way to go. oh well, if you are bored you can look at Platnick's World Spider Catalog at the Uloboridae family and see in and if the place names look familiar and go from there

edit:

ah dang. i just realized the spider is on a web and not a twig like i thought and it's legs don't have feathers, they are more like different colors on the joints. so, pretty much all the little reasons i kind of thought it looked like an Ulo are wrong. heh.

looks to be a golden orb weaver Nephila Ornata. hard to be sure from that angle. nice colouring though.

looks like some species of Nephila to me.
That's what I said when I commented on it. My other guess was some kind of Orchid spider due to the shape of it's abdomen. But I'm still not to sure on what it could be. I know one thing though, it's a beautiful spider. :D

Hope I see one someday when I plan to go to Australia.
