Newly molted + 3 months = contradiction.
Check the breeding reports for helpful info on breeding. That's why they're there. ![]()

I think he meant that if you mate a female three months after she molts, it will be unsuccessful.

It won't necessarily be unsuccessful, but there's somewhat of a "window of opportunity" in-between molts. And if she's mated after that "window" is up, then the chances of her molting the sperm out increase.

I'd be interested to know where this information was acquired.

It depends entirely on the species, some take ages to drop a sac, or have really short moult cycles in which case three months might be too long, etc etc
So it would depend on the species

Thats untrue. When i'm breeding any kind of Brachy I prefer at them between
2 and 3 after thay molt and wont breed a female more than 4-1/2 after thay molt. But over the year i've had some females more than 6 month post produce 100% fertile egg cases. But when breeding female Brachy's 3 months is the perfect time to breed. But males are on the way out after 4 months and I stop using them after 4-1/2 months. The older thay the male get the fertility of the egg case goes down.when the male Brachy's are 3 months or less there egg cases are almost 100% fertile.Once thay go over 4-1/2 post molt the fertility of the eggs case goes down to 75% fertile or less.I've been taking notes and keeping track of this for about 15 years now.So I know what i'm talking about. That why I never use borrowed males. Some people will tell you anything you want to hear so thay can get a 50/50 split of your sling I don't know if the female picks up on the oder of the rotting unfertile eggs or something she just senses. But she is more likely to eat a less fertile than one that is almost 100% fertile. Now other species like Avic's the males start to lose fertility much sooner. Now I got a mature virgin male Avic Fasciculata - Avic Diversipes that is a little more than 3 months and I know he only has one good shot left.Right now he's a virgin super charged male and he's ready to breed. But my females are not ready to breed. So I hope he doesn't go to waste. If anybody has an adult breedable female A.Diversipes I would be happy to loan him to you and he has one great shot produre slings.Once a male is charged he stays charged until he breeds or dies.Lets get back on topic. So it really depends on what species your breeding before you can deside if he's past his prime. If anyone has any questions just post them. |

as long as the male keeps making spermwebs, i would use him. and in your case, i would still use the male on the smaller females. hopefully this will stimulate them to molt once more and possible be big enough to produce a sac. also keep in mind that a lot of tarantula species can reproduce earlier then most of us think.
