When my first T, an A. hentzi sling 1/4", came in the mail, my roommates were like "what the hell are you doing with a baby tarantula?", my one roommate almost didn't let it in the house. When my 2nd and 3rd T's arrived (1" B. smithi and 2" L.P.), my roommates gathered 'round while i opened the package to see the "new, bigger spiders." Then I somehow ended up with a breeding pair of C. vittatus (striped bark) scorpions. When the scorps came in the mail, all the roommates gathered 'round the table once again, and this time we even had a feeding for everyone to see. Now I'm not even allowed to feed my 2" L. parahybana juvie unless I get my one roommate so he can watch.

Now the good part:
I was mentioning purchasing a C. elegans or some other dwarf tarantula about 10 minutes ago when my one roommate, who was almost against me even having a 1/4" sling, told me that if I am ordering another T, he would want to sit down with me and pick one too! He wants to get his very own tarantula after almost not letting them in the house!

I will obviously aid him in his decision making to find a good starter T or sling for what he's looking for. Just thought I'd share.
I'm going to email your anecdote to my niece, who just entered college this year and still sees a spider and screams "EEEEEWWWWWWWWw!!!"
