Iridopelma Hirsutum
Hi, Ive been reading around about this species and now have one in this setup
![]() ![]() Its about 8 3/4 high, 6 in round. I got an 1 1/2 of eco earth of the bottm vent hole 2 in up from the bottom and 1 in down from the top. Water dish mounted about 2/3, or half up and fake foliage and plant for some decor. I seen one setup that did really have any leaves so Im wondering if I should remove those. Any other advice or concerns would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

I'd do these minus some of the leaves also...
Its looking great... If ever changing anything I'd do a container with more clarity, like some that are perfectly clear... you get to see more of any changes or activity, without having to remove any lids or have perfect lighting... I also have some I. hirsutum.. but mine are babies. Aren't they awesome?! I love these.. Like avics but feistier.. ![]() |

VERY pretty T!
I agree... remove a little bit of foliage, and maybe next time have a more clear container to see through.

If yours is anything like mine, it will make a pretty big hammock when its time to molt, and it will make it up high. Hopefully it will make it on one or two of the leaves and not on the lid.
Mine has a nice pice of cork which it ignored and went to the lid to make a hammock. Now when I go to feed it, I have to scare it to death when I pop the lid. Your set-up is fine, just pull any leaves that his the top, leave some near the middle of the container and hope for the best. Good lookin T ya got there. PIG- |

I have two that are about 1" each one seems really chill but the other is crazy. The crazy one tries to escape every chance it gets. In fact it tries test the container lid by feeling along the seem. they are great eaters and they grow fairly quick id say a little faster then the avics I had at the same size.
In regaurds to the cage I think you might want to add more vent holes I like to keep mine vented well.

How many more vent holes would you suggest? I got the two rows and the lid is full of holes. I know ventilation and humidity are important so I want to get it right. I live in southern ca and humidity is kinda low around here. Thanks for all the great comments, advice and help! ![]()

what I like to do is make a 2 larger holes across from each other and put a bit of screen over it but if you just add more vent holes id add them near the top under the row you have going all ready.

I cleaned out some foliage and the last few nights hes didnt really web to much like he started to in the first set-up.....Is that a good sign or no?
![]() ![]() ![]() Still researching to find the best way to add additional ventilation and if its needed. I gauged the inside closed and the temp was 77 with humidity at 75%.

Imagine moving into a new apartment, painting, decorating, and arranging...
Then someone comes by, few days later, you're settling in, and they decide to remove furniture, re-arrange your stuff, and stir you up... It might take you a few days to re-group also ![]() A second web or web-burrow is never like a first IME.. |

Good point...I figured that, just havent been able to confirm it till now. Does the new setup look good now? I dont want to have to disturb again. You say a second web is never like a first......Do you mean its never as good again, or just different?

I just meant different...
It may get to be just as good and maybe even more elaborate, but the second time around will take a few.. Your T will settle in soon enough.. No worries.. |
