awwww, butterfly pavilion

they were selling baby rosies and mexican blondies, i felt bad for them because they were just spiderlings and they were held in those little plastic cups with lids you would probably get ketchup in at a fast food place, i was going to buy one, save it from it's little container =[ but i only had a twenty gallon tank, no stand, or anything basic =[ and i'm still recovering from the 250 dollar costing of my emperor scorpion lol

Edit: ....plus.... i know NOTHING about tarantulas lol

Damn! Where are you located that you had to drop that much on an emporer?!

It fails how some people keep slings when they are selling em though

well... ALL i had was a twenty gallon, i only wanted a single scorpion to start off with, and i heard ten gallons per scorp or they might have trouble hunting, so i got a ten gallon, than a heat pad... but the temperature here dropped dramatically so i had to add another heat source which was a heat lamp, so... i spent 250 on... a ten gallon, a lid, a stand, 6 bricks of tropical substrate, heat mat, heat lamp. two different hiding spots, multiple live plants and the emp alone... she was 20 dollars

10 gal= $15
sealed lid= $30
tropical bricks= $36
heat sources=$50
hiding spots= $15
live plants= $20
thermometer&hydrometer= $20
water for bricks= $6
emperor= $20

EDIT: okay... so i was off by $38

We can only HOPE they only package them like that for easy transport to shows. We can HOPE they aren't really being kept like that and can HOPE they will go back to their nice, cushy enclosures when they get home.

(Then again, baby Grammostolas could be .25"....so a little ketchup cup might be adequate!)

nope, they were just in those little cups with signs of their species spiderlings being sold, rosies were 20, and blondies were 5

WOW, I never would have thought substrate could be that much! I get the 3-pack of EcoEarth bricks, I think they are.. for like $10!

I had just a heat pad for my Emps... and they didn't even go near it. I now keep mine at room temp, with no ill effects?

Totally off topic though lol sorry

I donated a few slings to the B.F. in the past (some tiny Aphonopelma sp. Payson Blond slings).

G. rosea for 20 bucks? Something doesn't sound right...

You proably don't need all the heat pads/mats/lights you bought. Or the live plants. Or that lid. Why did you buy water?

Anyway...I'm sure the slings were just fine in those cups.

Sounds like a classic pet store upsell to me. It's so easy to walk into a store, see that something costs ~$10 and then get roped into buying an extra 100 bucks worth of accessories that you "need".

I went into a pet store the other day to pick up a water dish for one of my retics, and the owner tried to sell me a load of other crap I did not need. He kept asking me things like, "what kind of substrate are you using? When was the last time you changed it? What about heat lamps? Do you have a good enough cage?". Finally, I had to go, "look, I've kept pythons for over ten years and own 20 of them, I know what I'm doing".
