why has my chilli rose's behaviour changed?
when u got my T he was very docile and didnt mind to be handled. but his behaviour has changed substantially and doesnt like to be handled what so ever anymore. he gets all defensive and well something has definately changed. he use to be so friendly. however a few weeks ago my partner was putting him back into his tank after being handled and one of his hooks got cought on his hand, my partner immediately took his hand out, out of pure instinct that, however my T was still half on his hand and he dropped onto his foot. we checked him over and there is nothing physically worng with him, hes eating perfectly and acts natural but its when he gets handled. we dont know what to do because he use to be lovely to hold and now where both not willing to hold him anymore.

If its a mature male it might be because he is sexually frustrated..
I dont know if that is really what it is but everyone has said the G. rosea attitude can change from one minute to the next.. I have not had a male soo I am not really sure.. All my females are sweethearts..Is it a mature male? |

Rosies tend to be very unpredictable, changing from very sweet, to very defensive, it could mean anything maybe your T is stressed, or perhaps nearinga molt? I've noticed changes in behavior when nearing a molt. My P. cambridgei is the meanest T I have (which say something since I have an adult female OBT
) but now that he/she is nearing a molt, not only has he stopped eating but he's no longer ferocious and grumpy, throwing threats at anything that touches him, he just backs off.

You can always give it a try.. Get you a female that is ready to mate and just sit there and watch them.. Soon as he start to pull away seperate them.. You can find alot of videos on youtube and watch them to learn alittle about that..

G. roseas aren't always the sweet, docile Ts they are made out to be! My female is fine one day, and the next she's threat displaying at me for filling her water bowl.
You can tell he is a mature male by having really large palp bulbs and hooks on his front legs. Pictures would help!

G rosea are notorious for heavy mood swings. Some are docile, some are very defensive, and some jump between both extremes. Sounds like you have a "typical" rosea.

Sounds like your rosie had a bad experience. My daughter held my B. smithi a couple of months ago, and suddenly tried to shake my girl off of her hand to get her back into her enclosure. The second I noticed Ella wanting to put Jasmine back, I stopped my daughter faster than my S. cal can move, but my B. smithi hasn't been too "people-friendly" since. She will tolerate me.....if I can get her out, but easily freaks out with other people.
On the other hand, rosies are bi-freaking-polar. Mine will be sweet and docile about 90% of the time. She becomes psychotic the other 10%...which I now refer to as "Spider-PMS." Sometimes, T's will change personalities with molts. Rosies are also hard to tell when in premolt due to their quirky nature. There is always hope that a molt will fix it. Before you flame me for letting my 4 year-old hold a T, I have special animal rules in my home for my kids to follow. These rules come with some pretty hefty consequences attached for breaking them. With the spiders it's: "Be still," "Listen to the dad," and "Let daddy get them out and back in." She is reduced to just looking at them from a distance, and maybe feeding one of them until further notice.

1. Dropped T = stressed T
2. Handled T = stressed T 3. Rosies = perpetual identity crisis
