I've never had an avic. but have been told that they don't really kick hairs all that often. Almost all of the pictures of avic. versicolor that I've seen have what looks like a bald spot on the back of their abdomen. Is this just the way that they look or is that from kicking hairs?

Avics dont kick hair. They just can't do it. They have urticating hair, but they aren't able to kick them. Instead of it, they shoot some T. crap very accuratly. This is the only genus who does it.

They can kick. One of my slings did it to me. They just don't kick very often, they generally choose rather to run, jump, or shoot poop.

Maybe we should refer to them as poop-shooters instead! ;P
