Perhaps it's time to publish a NEW book on T-Keeping??? Being fairly new to the world of Ts, yet having looked through this site for countless hours, there is MORE info here than any book I've read. Moreover, your pics are absolutely STUNNING, the detail is unbelievable. EXCELLENT, and gorgious Ts!!! WOW! My wish-list continues to grow....and the space in my house continues to diminish.

that is a stunning minax. Did you get her from someone who could 100% surely ID it as one vs. some other asian sp.? If so, I feel it's genuinely worthy to appear at the next BTS event. You post many wonderful pictures here, but by far that is the most handsome tarantula I've ever seen. You also managed to dig it out without it being covered with mud! {D

Actually that was after I brushed the mud off she wasn't happy. I don't know for certan that it as a true minax that is what it was sold to me as and people have said that they guy I got it from is pretty good so it is most likely a minax and it certiantly looks like one and even has the little beard

What kind of setup do you keep your Haps in? I noticed all these are out in the open. I just got my first H. lividium and I started a burrow in the corner for her. Of course, she added on up under the middle where I imagine I will rarely see her.

What do you provide?

Thanks,

So what are the chances of me getting a H. Minax? And if i could what should I expect to pay? And where would one go to get one?

There is an AWESOME thread around here somewhere in which Martin and Volker posted their Hap enclosures... I just can't find it right now! (Guys?!) As far as getting a minax, they're not hard to fnd, but the chances that it really IS a minax are LOW!!

Well, you could always be slings of very slow growing species and start out with very young slings. And by the time they get grown you'll be too attached to sell some and feel the need to remodel the house or find a larger appt  :D

And then, you'll have some extra room for... :p

Hi Wright,

How much does it cost for a full grown H. Minax in the UK?
I was offered a full grown female for US$70.00

By someone who was able to correctly ID it and stand behind the identification? That sounds like a very interesting deal......

The Haplopelma I have here that we are unsure of, looks just
like the one you have pictured here that has the velvety
hair on the abdomen with no long hairs at all. I haven't
studied her to see if she has a gray "mustache". she is
down in a deep hole which then goes further on the
bottom of the aquariym and has it all webbed up to
keep light out. I started the hole for her on the side
so she would go down the side as I've seen others
do and if I squint just right shining a flashlight in
the side I can see her a little. She has the dirt
webbed and piled up at the entrance. I can coax
her out with the end of a paintbrush, she does grab
it, but doesn't come up ready to bite. I'll have to
try and get her to come up to the top again. She is
just so neat, a velvety dark brown. The carapace looks
"leathery" but no design. Thanks for posting the pictures
They are good and you have some nice spiders.
$30 isn't too bad for a large Haplopelma is it? As
big as it is, I would not be surprised if it molts and
has spurs, but it does look a little like its a girl.

Hey Sharon, heard of paragraphs? ;) I get dizzy reading your posts, hehehe.

It's not really possible to identify a tarantula using only photographs - even less possible with a vague description, but no $30 isn't bad for a large Haplopelma.

H.minax don't appear often in the UK (I cannot comment on the US) but when they do, they come in large numbers from North Thailand. It used to be the case that only H sp."aureopilosum" was imported and sold erroneously as H.minax but this doesn't seem to be happening so much these days.
The commonest wild caught Asian Haplopelma here is H sp."Vietnam" which you will see in America sold as a "Thai Tiger" "Vietnam Earth Tiger" "Thai Black" "Vietnam Black" or some other nonsensical name.

The last true H.minax I bought cost me £15, but she is not fully grown (around 6") and I have some captive bred spiderlings.
Yu do realise they are far bigger than lividum etc, some minax reach about 8" legspan like H.schmidti.
