Trapdoor tips...
Hey All,
Looking for a few tips on husbandry. Major concerns are how often to feed and how often and how to water them?

I'm keeping a small local species. I feed 2-3 small crickets once a week and a water my misting the surface (so the top 1/4" of soil saturated). I have heard of others using a small bowl.

I agree with Wade, 2 or 3, maybe 4, crickets a week is fine. Trapdoors also get alot of their water from their prey, but it is still good to mist them. I personally would not suggest a water bowl because crickets may get trapped in the water and therefor the spider would never get a chance to kill and eat them.

Would the usual potting soil/peat mixture that I use for my ts work as a substrate for trapdoors? My husband really wants one (must encourage this behavior) but I've been holding off on buying him one because I didn't know much about them.

Hey Galeogirl, potting soil/peat is the best substrate to use for trapdoors and it supports the vertical burrow very well.

Good to know. Looks like my Christmas shopping just got a little easier.
