Thank you for those fine pictures. I hope for success for you and maybe one day they will be more common.

Hi,

I`ve got 4 mature males. They are all this small.
It took one year from egg to adult for the males.

Hi Mr. Ed,

they are not agressive at all...more like Pterinochilus lugardi than Pterinochilus murinus.

I was recently reading an article somewhere online regarding venom and the harpactira was mentioned as having a very nasty effect. Definitely wouldn't want to get bit by this baby.

Do you know in what region of South Africa this species is usually found? I'll be there this summer (as I am just about every year), so it would be great to find some of these guys.

an informative article (including habitat photos) about the species shown in Philipp's photos:
  • SAMADI, J. P. (2005): Lebensweise und Kokonbau von Harpactira cf. guttata im natürlichen Habitat. ARACHNE 10(3): 6-12.
all the best,
Martin

Gorgeous spiders. I got to see a wild tarantula when I was in South Africa and that was beautiful as well. Don't know the species though. It's awesome to see them out in their natural habitat :D
