I like to set up the slings with compressed long fiber peat (like they use to line hanging baskets of plants). The peat releases moisture fairly evenly, is not prone to mold, and doesn't get soggy like the fine or milled peat moss. I did lose one (T. purpureus) to dryness during a molt. I'm currently rearing three slings - T. gigas, T. plumipes, and T. purpureus. They grow like weeds. Feed them lots and feed them often. Enjoy this great genus.
Thanks for the replies, great photos and advice. Is this maybe a T there
was a lot more interest in a couple of years ago? It seems as if suddenly
certain Ts become available and everybody wants one. I can say that
about myself in the case of P. Metallica but like some collectors I am hoping the
price will drop a bit more. I suppose the price could go up too Uh, Ohh!
T.gigas slings are usually availiable for less than $50. The biggest problem with this T is that it is fast!. It is faster then a pokie or an irminia. It is faster then a S.calceatum. Miles per second fast.
Tap gigas is possibly the fastest T out there literally grease lightning there temperament is very nervous from my experience, that being said they are a very beautiful spider very sleek and elegant and a great addition to a collection but be warned once you get one of these you will want other Taps...
