Sericopelma melanotarsum

This is a 5" female! I'd sure like to get a breeding project going on these in the future. We need more of these!

yeah

Very nice looking T. I love the tarsus on this species they look like Theraphosa, Pamphobeteus, Xenesthis(butt), Megaphobema with a hint of P. irminia :D

are they closely related?

never seen one before but man is it beautiful

Well, this camera has a very poor macro ability, only a 2.1 megapixel. I'd have to get out the ol 35mm for a good shot, but that takes awhile to get developed

Well, I'm not sure about how closely related they would be to Psalmopoeus, but they do have that irminia charm on the metatarsus. From what I know, they keep it into adulthood. Males look very strange when they mature, spindley and orangish.
I'd sure like to get my hands on some more spiderlings. This one was a spiderling in '02, I believe from European stock. Haven't seen them since.

Most of the colour of the metatarsus will fade away into adulthood.

click here for a pic of an adult male.

Not an easy specie to keep btw in my opinion, they don't like it too warm. Have 3 females bred and have sub-males for next years breeding.

regards,
Alex

Does anybody has some input on this?

thanks,
Alex
