Just gonna post this one because I think it’s really cool! I’ve photographed these a handful of times over the years, about 4 times, but only using a microscope. Today I was outside and managed to find some, I found out they are actually very easy to find, not so easy to see! This is taken at 5x, I’ll post the uncropped one and the cropped image. This was taken handheld with no tripod, lots and lots of images, this one was the best and only one I kept. This is a protura, known as a conehead. These are hexápodos, separate from insects. They lack wings, antennae, or eyes. This one is smaller than 1.5mm 53001879124_e8a88be900_o.jpeg 53002110450_d1569453c0_o.jpeg

I found some giant springtails on a hike yesterday in the mountains. I had no idea these existed. These are huge by springtail standards. Super super cool IMG_6645.jpeg 53023916285_aaffe0b18f_o.jpeg 53023694524_b8399ec415_o.jpeg 53023694584_51706b87c5_o.jpeg

Wow. Loving the quality of your photos.

Where do you find all these bugs?

Makes me wonder what kind of little critters are out in my forested backyard here in Houston. I've always seen a ton of movement but never focused on it with the kind of perspective you have with your equipment.

It's absolutely breathtaking and inspiring to see these kinds of shots of the tiny little lifeforms around our feet.

Love it.

There’s all kind of cool creepy crawlies in that area. The smaller you go, the more stuff there is to find :)

On it!!

I've been out in the rain showers looking at all the bugs that have come crawling up because of the flood waters.

Sooooo many isopods, beetles and worms!

I found this weird cocoon thing floating in a puddle!

Do you mention what kind of camera and lens you use anywhere? I showed my GF your photos, and she's pushing me to do the same as I love hiking around and finding random creatures too.

I really want to pursue the kind of photography you do.

That is a pupa of some kind, it looks really cool! Could be a beetle! And yeah after rain is a great time to look for bugs, I plan on going out tonight and seeing what I can find. I use a Nikon D7500 and a Sigma 105mm with a raynox 150 or for even higher magnifications I use a Laowa 25mm lens. I don’t recall what flash I use but I use a cygnustech diffuser which makes a big difference

Learned a new illumination/filter technique, Osmann illumination, made from the plastic wrap from an Aquafina water bottle! 53085897168_9677953bcf_o.jpeg 53085896918_af65925f95_o.jpeg 53085591324_56a90792bc_o.jpeg 53085690400_f50bbb0a46_o.jpeg 53085804648_97472f685e_o.jpeg 53085308966_3390382742_o.jpeg 53085500039_99aee41e88_o.jpeg 53084834152_13d9283c5c_o.jpeg 53085400691_da64e54848_o.jpeg 53085896708_ba594d5578_o.jpeg

Actually went out and bug hunted for the first time in a while. The next update in this thread will hopefully be interesting. I’m going to the Dominican Republic next week and will try to take lots of bug photos! As of right now, these are all from my yard in North Carolina 53186043374_5ac9987c28_o.jpeg 53186348958_6f22503b56_o.jpeg 53186043304_290c4b0b64_o.jpeg 53186348893_1f7116a1c4_o.jpeg 53186044074_6723ca03f7_o.jpeg 53186177280_6dc1cb6e13_o.jpeg 53186177785_3cc77a2885_o.jpeg 53186044769_3ef52030a2_o.jpeg 53186348918_63e00fe18a_o.jpeg 53185978791_625399e5fc_o.jpeg
