For the morbidly curious (or epicurean) I have read anectdotal reports of them tasting vaguely of shrimp, with the opisthosoma being the less desireable portion due to its jelly-like texture and cooler insides. The legs are supposedly the best part. They cook them by the hundreds in certain areas, and I suspect it is primarily a tourist driven practice at this point, as I have read it may have been born out of the starvation prevalent during repressive regimes of the past.

Though, like in all cultures, strange practices can eventually be assimilated into culture. Eating tarantulas isn't inherently any weirder than peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, for example. :alien:
