Aren't they the cutest? Mine sits at her burrow... with her butt and back legs at the entrance! Guess she'd rather show off those fuzzy little legs than catch prey!

They're really cool spiders at that. I've not even seen mine however from the 1'' mark to the 3.5'' mark, they're quite the recluse.

I was just wondering if Stromatopelma calceatum was the only species from this genus in the hobby...:?

Hi,

Cedrik, i think your memory is not as good as you think. I told oyu this post some weeks ago. Try to remember. ;)

Heteroscodra is a small genus - there are 3 species (plus one subspecies H. crassipes latithorax) in the genus Heteroscodra. As far as i know, there is only one species (H. maculata) in the hobby.
This are the species of this genus:
  • H. crassipes crassipes HIRST, 1907
    • H. crassipes latithorax STRAND, 1920
  • H. maculata POCOCK, 1899
  • H. pachypoda (STRAND, 1908)

The genus Stromatopelma comprise 4 species (plus one subspecies S. calceatum griseipes). IMO is only 1 species in the hobby S. calceatum.
This are the species of this genus:
  • S. batesi (POCOCK, 1902)
  • S. calceatum calceatum (FABRICIUS, 1793)
    • S. calceatum griseipes (POCOCK, 1897)
  • S. fumigatum (POCOCK, 1899)
  • S. satanas (BERLAND, 1917)

And to complete this list:
The subfamily Stromatopelminae has 3 genus:
  • Encyocratella (monotypic genus/rare species - E. olivacea)
  • Heteroscodra
    and
  • Stromatopelma

Hope this helps.
